WBZ Radio: Jarren Duran, Red Sox Staff Refurbish Community Center In Roxbury
BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Jarren Duran, Wally the Green Monster, and dozens of Red Sox front office staff members pitched in to help refurbish a community center in Boston Wednesday.
More than 60 Red Sox staff members spent the day at the facility — which is part of the Roxbury Tenants of Harvard affordable housing community — painting walls and installing furniture for a new youth lounge.
“I think it’s beautiful,” Roxbury Tenants of Harvard Association Executive Director Karen Gately said. “I think the kids are going to be so happy.”
The event was meant to honor One Boston Day, despite being held a week after the anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings. The Red Sox were on the road for a series in Minnesota on the actual One Boston Day.
“Our goal is to come in here today and to spread joy, to give the community a little bit of hope, to brighten things up, [and] to let them know that they matter and that the Red Sox care about them,” Red Sox Director of Community and Player Relations Caitlin Hanley said.
