International Women’s Day 2025

Committee: Liz Verasamy (Lead) Scott Amaral, Nadiia Novikova, JC Chen, Tanya Garnett, Patricia Haran

This event was held on Saturday March 8th from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the RTH Gymnasium, six women were nominated to receive this prestigious award. There were approximately one hundred, seventy-four (174) guests in attendance. The committee started planning the event several weeks in advance. The event was advertised in the “What’s-Up”, through Flyers, TV Monitors on the elevator in the high-rise buildings, and several other locations.

The venue was beautifully decorated with bright colors of purple and gold, the traditional colors of the International Women’s Day Celebration. Nadiia created the most exquisite arch made from purple and gold balloons and white hanging wisteria flower vines. The doorways were also decorated with purple hanging wisteria vines. The tables were adorned in purple and off-white tablecloths and brightly colored napkins and a fresh potted flower plant decorated each table.

Guests started checking in at 3:30 pm and each guest were pinned with a lovely purple flower on their lapel, which made it a lovely touch for the event, and they were very touched by this gesture.

The award ceremony started with speeches given by Liz Verasamy, Karen Gately and Scott Amaral, after which narrations were read for each nominee recognizing each one for their contributions and accomplishments to the RTH community. Each nominee was given a beautifully framed certificate and a gorgeous fresh bouquet of flowers. Karen Gately was also recognized for her contribution as our Executive Director and was presented with a lovely fresh bouquet.

After the ceremony was over dinner was served, which was an array of delicious food and dessert, which everyone enjoyed immensely.

The entertainment was provided by Arslan who played the Saxophone and sang songs in both Russian and English, also Arslan selected some very lively music for dancing.

The guest did not hesitate to let us know that the event was one of the most beautiful and successful they have ever experienced.
